Michael McCarthy 30, Gardener  & wife Eliza (Reidy) 27 left Cobh harbour 1838

(Michael's parents John McCarthy, Labourer, wife Ellen (Warn, Ward, Ware or even

Walsh) bad writing in Shipp list. Eliza's parents Thomas Reidy farmer, wife Ellen only.)

with children Mary 13, Thomas 12, Cath 9, Ellen 6 aboard "Aliquis" for Sydney, Australia landing March 1839. son Francis (our ancestor) born April 1839, family

in Melbourne 1841, son William born 1841, John 1842, Richard 1844, Eliza 1846.

Would like to find where family originated all we know is natives of Co Limerick.

Shipping list has they were Protestant, but have been told they have very R.C

names. We have also been told many Catholics during the mid 1820's changed to

Protestant for financial reasons.

John from Ireland reaching out has found 2 baptisms in Kilcornan & Stonehall parish (rc) Hellen 1825 & Maria 1825 (Latin for Mary) parents Michael McCarthy

& Eliza Reidy

Hoping someone can help with more info.

  • Hi John were you able to decipher the surname on the shipping list I sent.

Haven't had much time to do much family history at moment, don't know what to make of baptisms you

found, Hellen & Maria (Mary) 1925, Mary ties in with the family, but know nothing of Hellen 1825.
