I'm researching the family of Lawrence McCarthy/Ann Ryan.  Some of their children were born in Bruff and they later lived in Athlacca.  They emigrated with 12 children in 1850 to the U.S. (Chicago, Illinois area).  Ann died of cholera on the canal boat coming from New York and was buried in Milwaukee.  The rest of the family settled in the Chicago area and most of the children married there.  I have considerable information on this family, most of which is on a public tree on the Ancestry.com website, if anyone is researching this family.

    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

On Roots Ireland there are seven baptismal records from 1827 (Margaret) to 1836 (Laurence) in the Dromin/Athlacca parish. records. The older children were likely not baptized in Bruff since Bruff records back to 1808 are available on Roots. Likely there were baptized in a parish that does not have records back to the 1820s. I also did not find the marriage record.

  • HI all and kmpbrennen

I am doing family research and found that my great great grand-father is Timothy McCarthy...I believe the son of Lawrence McCarthy. I would love more information on this family including the spouse of Lawrence Annie or Anne Ryan. Thank you so much!

  • Lawrence's wife was Ann Ryan.  My email address is kb1966@bellsouth.net.  If you send me your email address, I'll send you information on all of their 12 children, their spouses, and their children.  There is a person in Australia who researched the Ryans, and I can give you some of that information.  There also is a husband and wife in Tampa, Florida, each of which is descended from one of the children.  I believe that one of them is descended from Timothy.  Be aware that the ship records show a young boy with a name that looks like Nauvoo, but the record actually was for the youngest girl, named Honora (Nonno was her nickname).  There also apparently was a previous child by that name who died some years previously in Ireland.  My public tree on Ancestry.com is named Brennan-Johnson, if you have a subscription to that site and want to see some of their descendants.  My maternal great-grandmother was Ann McCarthy, one of the daughters.
