Hello,

I am trying to find information on my ggrandfather and ggrandmother, James Hickey and Bridget Sullivan.  I believe they were married in the Rockhill/Bruree parish/district on Feb 11,1827.  Their children were Ellen (born 1828), James (born 1829), John who is my great grandfather (born 1832), and Patrick (born 1834), and they were baptized at the same church.

I know nothing of Bridget Sullivan's or James Hickey's birth, parents, siblings etc.

I would appreciat any help anyone could give me.  I want to learn all I can about any family I had or have in Ireland.

Thank you,

Alma Stafford

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

It is interesting that you found a marriage record back to 1827 in Rockhill/Bruree plus baptismal records. The online parish register and a reference book I have both indicate that records start in 1842.  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0871  I did search for a baptismal record for James and Bridget back around 1807 in Rockhill/Bruree but got no record.

  • Roger,

I appreciate the prompt response to my post.  The information I have is from www.rootsIreland.ie.  This was given to me. I haven't been able to find anything else so far on the Hickey's or Sulivan's.  I am still searching.

Thank you so much for replying back to me.

  • Roger,

I have a question for you.  I was wondering if I wrote to the Church in Rockhill/Bruree, do you think that anyone there would make me copies of the marriage record of James & Bridget Hickey and the births and baptisms of their children?  I would pay for the copies or donate to the church, if someone would do that for me. Maybe I could get more information from the records on James & Bridget Hickey. If you think it's possible, do you have an address of the church that I could write?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thank you,

    Alma Stafford

Feel free to contact the parish. I found a link to the two churches. There is a phone number but no e-mail.

  • Dear Alma.  I am afraid I don’t think I can help you find the family you are searching for, but, we might be related. My great great great grandfather, Robert Stafford was born in Bruff in 1791. He moved to Cumbria and was married in Gosforth in 1815.  He was murdered in 1859. No birth records have come to light, but I’m hoping someone might have a lead to go on.   Many thanks and Best Wishes.    Rob Stafford

  • Rob,

I am so sorry, It doesn't look like I responded to you.  I do not believe we are related.  I don't have a Robert Stafford in my tree that I know of.

    Best of luck to you.
