I am looking for any information about my great great great great father James Leary who married Ellen Halpin on the 2nd of March 1802 in the Ballybricken Roman Catholic Parish. I know that they had a son, James who was born 1807 in Cappagh, Limerick.

I know that in 1826 James Leary Jr enlisted in the Bombay Army in Rathkeale and served until his retirement in 1848. After leaving Bombay his service records state that he was returned to Europe.

James Leary Jr does not show up again until 1851 when he board the 'Blenheim' in Cork with his wife, Eliza Leary nee Malony as a Military Penioner bound for Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania).

I also believe that James and Ellen Leary had another son, John who was born ca 1814.

I am looking for any information about James, Ellen, James Jnr or John

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Have you had a look at rootsireland, a subscription site to see if you can learn anymore about the family? Alternatively you can see the original  Roman Catholic parish registers for free at registers.nli.ie

You might also consider looking for further information on army records from The National Archives in Kew HERE
