Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!Below is a transcription of the 1834 baptismal record for Michael in Doon parish. Darkisland is in Doon civil parish. He also had the following siblings Timothy 1832, John 1835, Honora 1837, Margaret 1839, Patrick 1841 (likely died young), Jeremiah 1843 and Patrick 1843. Here is the link to the parish register so you can see the actual entries. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0260  I did not locate the marriage record. You will note that Doon marriage records do not begin until 1839.

  • Hi Roger,

That is fantastic . Thank you so much. A relative of mine is travelling to Ireland in August so I will pass this information on to him. He is hoping to connect with relatives still living in the area.

    Regards

  • Hello again Roger.
Were you able to find any information regarding Mary kearney, Michael Hourigan's wife? The information I have suggests her father's name was Patrick Kearney and her mother Margaret Nolan. I believe that Mary was born around 1842. She and Michael were married in Australia in 1864 having arrived in Australia in 1863.
Thank you once again for a your assistance
    Regards
    Margie

What about this record? The mother's surname is not Nolan but the family lived in Darkisland.

  • Margie,

I don't know if I can add a lot to what Roger has done but I took an interest in your post as I live in Co Limerick. It would appear that the Jeremiah that Roger mentions took on the farm and his son Patrick after that. You probably want to make a connection with relatives of Michael still in the area and maybe I could assist by making enquiries locally - if it something you want to follow up on then please email me at jimvaughan@eircom.net
