I am still searching for my Dillane great great grandparents, but with connecting with a recent DNA match and short term Roots Ireland access I came up with some new clues. Leading me now to research Edmund Dillane and Johanna Gibbons/Fitzgibbons. This was the only Edmund Dillane with wife named Johanna that matched my search criteria (Limerick, husband Edward, having children 1865-1885 named Hanora, Mary, James). I was not able to find a marriage or Hanora's birth, but I was able to find the birth/baptism records of four children correct timeframe with given names consistent with the family. 1) Johanna birth 4 July 1871, parents Edmond Dillane and Johanna Gibbons. Interesting that Johanna baptism date is 14 May 1871. Sponsors Jas. Gibbon and Maria Shaughnessy. 2) John birth 17 Aug 1875, parents Ned Dillane and Johanna Gibbons. No baptism found. 3) Mary birth 18 May 1878, parents Edmond Dillane and Johanna Gibbon. Mary baptism 26 May 1878. Sponsors John and Eliz. McAuliffe. 4) James birth 20 May 1883, parents Edward Dillane and Johanna Gibbon. James baptism 16 Apr 1883, parents Edmd Dillane and Johanna Fitzgibbon. Sponsors WM Coughlan and Brigt Quinn.
My great grandmother was Anne/Hanora Manning nee Dillane. Her sister (DNA match) was Mary Wall nee Dillane. Researching Mary led to the more useful leads. Mary Dillane married Patrick Wall 1906 at RC Kilcolman which had the note "BRIDES PARENTS ADDRESS- NEWCASTLE". I finally had an area to limit my search. Patrick and Mary with daughter Mary 1907 moved from the Shanagolden area to Newcastle before the birth of their second child Michael in 1908. MIchael and following sibling's births registered in Newcastle. Mostly townland Rathina.
Patrick and Mary Wall are living at house 7 in Rathaneane, Newcastle Urban, Limerick in the 1911 Census. James Dillane, brother-in-law was living with them. In the 1901 Census I found Edward 60 and Johannah Dillane 50 living at house 2 in Rathnaneane, Newcastle Urban Limerick. I also found the 4 March 1910 death registration of Edward Dillane, 75, widower in Newcastle, townland Rathina. Informant was Mary Wall daughter. Appears Johannah died between the 1901 Census and Edward's death in 1910. I have not found the death registration. It is possible her death led to Mary's move to the area to be near her elderly father.
I have lots of information regarding my great grandmother Anne/Hanora Manning nee Dillane after her marriage, but roots Ireland access gave me new insight into the baptism sponsors. Mary Dillane was a witness at Anne's 1899 RC Shanagolden wedding to Patrick Manning. Mary was also a sponsor at two of Patrick and Hanora's children's baptism. Other baptism sponsors were James Dillane and Johanna Dillane. As well as Patrick Wall, Anna Wall, and Michael Wall.
