Hello, I am planning to visit Fedamore in May and have a look around the area where, I believe, some of my Hickey ancestors came from.

A John Hickey and a Michael Hickey are listed in the 1826 Fedamore Tithes records as leasing land in Arybue, but I can’t find Arybue (or Arybill) on a map. Can you help with that?

My great-great grandfather, John Hickey, b. 1810, came from Limerick in 1832 to Newcastle, Maine, where he settled nearby other Hickey family members, notably Michael (b. 1786) and Michael’s son, Jeremiah, born 1814 in Ireland.

Thank you for any information that you have related to Arybue or the Hickey family there.

  • After looking at the Tithes and then Griffiths Valuation, likely the townland you are looking for is Arywee.

From townlands.ie  here is a map of where Arywee is located  https://www.townlands.ie/limerick/clanwilliam/fedamore/ballybricken/arywee/

  • Thank you so much Roger. I really appreciate you taking the time for this. I'm in County Clare at the moment and plan to drive through Fedamore on Friday. I'm not expecting to find any records for the Hickeys while I'm here but I'd at least like to think this might be the area where they came from.
