I am looking for information on Mary Hanrahan born November 7, 1902 in Ballygiltenan, Limerick. Her mother was Bridget Hanrahan (1868-1945), father unknown. Bridget's parents were Daniel Hanrahan(1836-1910) and Mary Brandon (1840-1887). Mary was present at Bridget's death in 1945 so her death would be 1945 or later. Thank you for any help that you can provide.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil death records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie only go thru 1969 ( 50 year privacy rule). Likely Mary died after 1969.I also checked for a marriage record after 1945 and did not find a record.Maybe you can contact the parish in Glin to see if they can assist.  https://www.limerickdiocese.org/contact-directory/

  • Hello,

Thank you so much for the information! I have learned that Mary Hanrahan may have married Patrick Normyle (Normile or Normoyle) on 1-25-1949. I am not 100% certain that this is the Mary Hanrahan that I am searching for but I would be very grateful if you could confirm this for me and provide any additional information that you may find.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi MAM,

Unfortantely the marriage isnt on the Irish genealogy website as its timing boreders on the 75 year privacy rule.

Below is a link to the General Register Office in Roscommon. Here you can download a form to apply for the marriage cert. Look for a  copy or photocopy for research purposes. It will cost you €4.

    https://www.gov.ie/en/service/124a70-apply-for-certificates/

Fill in the details from the index

    Hope that helps

  • Hello everyone!

On a research trip from Washington state, USA. I’ll be in Limerick City, near the Limerick University Hospital from 22-28 Aug researching libraries etc. Then from 28 Aug-4 Sep, I’m staying in Glin at Geoghegan’s Magpie B&B. Would very much appreciate any suggestions and especially meeting with anyone who may have information or clues on any of these families.

    1. My grandmother was Helen Hanrahan B. 21 Aug 1890 in Chicago, IL. She was a daughter of James J. Hanrahan & Sarah J. Walsh. Helen married Daniel L. Madden 19 July 1910.

    2. My great grandfather, James J. Hanrahan B 2 Jan 1853 in Rathkeale, son of James Hanrahan & Bridget Lyster and he married Sarah J. Walsh 14 Aug 1889 in Chicago. James J, had two brothers; Patrick 4 Mar 1847, he married Mary, maiden name not found and they went to Baltimore, MD USA. Michael, B 27 Apr 1848 married Margaret Cunningham and had two children, Mary & John.

    3. My GG grandfather, James Hanrahan B abt 1815, son of Richard Hanrahan & Margaret McDonald and he married Bridget Lyster of Rathkeale 12 Jan 1845 at Knockaderry Catholic Chapel. James had three brothers; Henry married Mary McGovern abt 1864 in Cayuga Co, New York.; William married Johanna Shannon 14 Apr 1868 in Lockport, Will Co, Illinois; John married Margaret Moore of Ahalahanna 6 Feb 1868 at Moyvane Chapel, Kerry Co.

    4. My GGG grandfather, Richard Hanrahan B abt 1780, possibly of Kilmurry. He married Margaret McDonald.

I have a considerable amount of information of these folks I’d be happy to share. Look forward to any information, thanks in advance!

  • Hello, Ed,

I am also related to many Hanrahans!  Carol from Texas

4th gr grandfather:  Michael Hanrahan - needs much more research

3rd gr grandfather: James Hanrahan, National School Teacher, Shanagolden md. Marie Fleming

2nd gr grandmothers:  sisters - 1) Ellen Hanrahan md. James O'Sullivan - they moved to Liverpool in mid-1880's

and 2) Mary Hanrahan md. Albert Locher-Bertrand in New York City

my grandparents: Mary Gladys O'Sullivan md. Charles Edward Bertrand moved to New York in 1925

My grandmothers were baptized in Shanagolden.  I would love to understand more about the Shanagolden and Glin (where I believe my Marie Fleming may have been from).  James' work in Shanagolden as a School Teacher.  Strong line of teachers in the family.  Ellen was principal at school in Liverpool.  Mary Gladys was very smart.

My grandmother, Mary Gladys left a hand-written (1919) family genealogy unfortunately it is of the O'Sullivan line in County Kerry not the maternal line!!

    Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

    Carol
