I located an 1844 marriage record for a James Canty and Johanna Lehane in the Kilfinnane RC church. Possibly this record is for your ancestors. Kilfinnae is likely the parish for Johanna. Hospital parish is to the north of Kilfinnane.

I located a James Canty in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing in Knocklong West townland in Knocklong parish. Not sure if this is your James but Knocklong is between Hospital and Kilfinnane. Also below is a link to the Knocklong RC register in case you want to search for baptismal records.

I am also related to Canty-Leahy families. My great-grand uncle, Denis Leahy (1847-1899, Tiermore, Bulgaden, married Johanna Canty (1851-1884) . Johanna died the day she birthed her youngest son Denis on 18th June 1899. Denis and Johanna had had 8 children under 9 years at that stage. Denis was then 14 when his Dad Denis died.

just got a chill, as that day June 18th is my birthday. Sad story. 

I know via DNA that I have a connection with the Bulgaden Leahy's - just can not figure out how. 

Canty connection is : Mary Margaret Canty from 1806 married a Edmond Walsh originally from Bandon from 1797 and they lived in Milford, Co Cork.

Hi Susan, can you be more specific as to your user name on Ancestry please as I can not find you. I may not have any more to add though, however, the best thing to do would be if you had a Gedmatch kit number, I can scientfically prove a DNA link - I have 4 family members on Gedmatch so can counter test to us all.
