Michael John Doyle said he was born in/near Manorhamilton around 1908. But no trace of him is to be found in Church or State documentation. Gave his father's name as John. Known to have worked on the narrow-gauge Leitrim Cavan railway at Dromod, probably in the mid 1920's. He may even have tried out the 'Religious Life' as a young man. He loved reading and had had a good basic schooling.
Strongly suspect that he hit big trouble in the family and as a result may have later hidden his true identity. He once stated that he 'Dared not return home'. For all that he was a quiet, decent working man who paid his way in life and attended mass regularly.
His family was supposed to have had more boys than girls. In a shop in Rugby in the 1970's his accent was recognised as that of County Leitrim, but no follow up took place.
I have been searching since his death in Hampshire in 1984. Ask yourself - do you have a cousin, or great uncle in your Leitrim family who maybe just disappeared from the scene in unexplained circumstances or under a cloud - never to be heard of again? Do you remember hearing a family story that might just fit what you have read here?

I havn't heard any stories relating to your ancestors. In spite of this I am able to suggest an organisation who may hold records on your ancestor John Doyle. As he was an employee of the Letrim- Cavan Railway, the Irish Railway Records Society may hold a record on him in their archive at Hueston Station in Dublin. They is a chance that he may be mentioned in these records. Its worth at least contacting them to see if they have anything about John Doyle.They can be contacted on info@irrs.ie. It may be a long shot but I hope this may be of some help to you.

Hello, I just came across this post. Perhaps Michael John Doyle's father was part of a Doyle family of Mohill Leitrim.
My grandmother Margaret Doyle was living with her brother John Doyle in Laheen Mohill before she emigrated to Australia to become a teacher in Longreach. The census of 1901 was taken shortly before she left Ireland. She was 17 and her brother John was 31. Perhaps there is a connection.
