My great-grandfather is James Martin Daly (1850-1927). He was baptized as St. Michael's on Denmark Street 18 Jun 1850. His parents are listed as Michael Deely and Johanna O'Brien.
James also had two (known) brothers, John (1848-1915) and Michael (1854-1905), both of whom were baptized at St. Michael's.
John and James joined the Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion at age 14 and were transferred to Ottawa, Canada. John was discharged for medical reason and, according to his obituary, went to England for a while before returning. James purchased his discharge for 20 pounds in 1871.
I found a Michael Daly living on Edward Street, a tenant of Mary Henn, in the 1850 Griffith's Valuation. There is also a marriage on 6 Dec 1843 at St. John's (CoI) that says the groom was of the 61st regiment. The bride was Julia O'Brien. I don't know if these last two records are the same man.
Since I know the parish (for once) does anyone have any suggestions about how to get more information about James' parents?
Thanks

Mark:
On July 8th the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. The Limerick city parishes except for some gaps have records back to the late 1700s except for St. Patricks which start in 1804. I would check out the registers in about seven weeks.
