I am hoping to learn how to access birth, marriage, & death records for the Cahernarry Parish Records to verify ancestral lineage.  If a knowledgeable reasearcher in the area can assist me with this quest, I would like to hear from this person(s).  I am looking for the ancestral line of James Myles.  Thank you.

My family lineage as known:

James Myles (born about 1808) in Limerick County & married about 1830 to Elizabeth Unknown (born about 1810) in Limerick  & 2 sons born in Ireland prior to emigration to NY =  James Jr. (born abt. 1831) & Robert S. (born about 1833).  Possibly, their daughter, Sarah, was born in Ireland also (abt. 1838).   Only probable ship's  passenger's list I have found lists Elisa with 3 children: James, Robert, & Sarah and the ages do correlate.  However, no James or other male Myles in on this ship's list - Ship:The Star;  date is July of 1838 - destination: New York..

Another ship's list but hard to connect this to the family of James & Eliza:   Ship: St. Patrick from Ireland via Liverpool to New York - March of 1845.   PASSENGERS:  Myles, Thomas - age 33 (born abt. 1811),  Myles, James -31 (born abt. 1813),  Myles, Eliza - 55 (a widow - born abt. 1790),  Myles, Maryanne - 28 (born abt. 1817) &  Alfred - age 2 (born abt. 1842) &  Charles - age 1 (born abt. 1844).

The Myles surname is found in the Tithe Applotment records of 1825 in the Cahernarry Parish as follows:

Thomas Myles, John Myles & James Myles - all found in the Dooradoyle Townland.

Thomas Myles, John Myles, and Widow Myles - all found in the Sluggarah Townland.

James Myles & Eliza(beth?) & family moved to Ontario, Canada where more children were born.

You may want to try Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  This is a pay site to view the actual information on a record.

You don't mention the religious denomination but if RC, Roots has records for Donaghmore RC (Cahernarry civil parish) parish starting in 1830 for baptisms and 1827 for marriages. However, the marriage may be in another parish depending on where Elizabeth lived.

  • Roger - thank you for your return message.  The Myles were protestants according to the canadian censues.  I have used that pay site you mentioned in the past so will have to look again.  Any idea what parish to look at for protestant records?  Barbara

Same parish--Cahernarry. Unfortunately, baptismal records start in 1877 and marriages in 1846.
