Am planning a trip to Ireland in the not too distant future and was hoping to trace my heritage.

A relative did the family tree some years ago and they identified Michael O'Connell as the ancestor who began his days in Ireland and ended up a publican in Redfern, Sydney...who would have guessed...I love a beer!

I am not sure the nature of their research but they recorded the following;

Michael's parents were James and Bridget.

Michael was a Wheelwright and Coach Body builder.

One document I read, that seemed to relate to Michael, recorded a middle initial of L.

They believed that Michael was born in Limerick in 1842 but they questioned the year.  I have since, I think, found his cemetery reference in Sydney which says that he died in Nov 1919 and was aged 79...so I'm guessing he was born in 1840...?

Michael married a lady (born in Australia) named Mary O'Sullivan but it seems her real name was Marianne O'Lullwein.  The birth certificate I think I've found of one of their children recorded her name as Mary O'Lullwein.

I have yet to discover what year Michael left Ireland, and what boat he travelled out on, but I believe he and two of his brothers moved to Australia.  The brothers names are Patrick and Martin; not sure whether they are older or younger or whether they travelled at the same time.

thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

    However I couldn't find Patrick & Martin born to the same parents.

    There is a private member tree on ancestry owned by laurel hellyer which looks promising though can only be accessed with permission. Have you tried it?
