Kate Halpin born abt.1865 and Bridget Halpin  born abt. 1863 immagrated to New Zealand late 1800's.  Although they were definately sisters from Limercik  they both have different parents entered on their marriage certificates.  Kate's father was down as Thomas Halpin and mother Margaret Walsh, while Bridget has father as James Halpin and mother Mattra Welsh. Kate was my great grandmother and stated she was prodestant on her death certificate.  I would love to trace the ancestry of these two women but can't seem to move forward with it. Can anyone out there help me.

  • Hi James Halpin married Johanna Walsh in St Johns LImerick in February 24th 1854, it was a Roman Catholic marriage. No parents listed so difficult to find  a baptism if more than one of the name.

Weirdly there are a number of Halpin / Walsh children born but the father is each case is Jermiah and there appears to be two of him as on some of them he is a blacksmith but a different address so assuming he is not your man and possibly the register got it wrong.

It is possible that I am getting different addresses on the church and civil record, civil records commenced in 1864 and are free online to view, there is a William born 1869; Bridget born in 1867 and another one in 1873 and a Johanna in 1871 but other listed as Julia, anyway you should be able to see the civil regisgter here https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ click on civil and sign in etc but free after that, not sure of the registration district but you will not need it.

    Regards
