I am looking for family history regarding Ann Rainsford who was born in Murroe in 1884. Her father's name was Edmond, her mother's name is believed to have been Bridgette. She was born on a farm and had 18 brothers and sisters. Some of the siblings names were belived to be: Mary ( 2 - one died around 12 yrs old ), Margaret, Ann, Bridgett, Edmond, James, Catherine, Michael, and Jerr ( short for something). She immigrated to the US at the age of 16 or around the year 1900. She is the late grandmother of my wife Sheila. We were both in Ireland this past September on vacation and went to Murroe on our way from Kilarney to Cork. We walked around the town center and visited a cemetary where we found several stones with the name Rainsford on it. Would appreciate any and all information anyone may have regarding this family.
Thank you,
Ed and Sheila Danforth

Ed and Sheila:
The Rainsfords lived in Cappanahanagh townland in Abington civil parish. Anne was still there in March 1901. Her mother's name was Anne not Bridget (at least according to the two censuses). The 1911 census indicated that Anne had 17 children with 14 still living in 1911. I will try to locate the marriage index record for Edmond/ and Anne.

Ed and Sheila:
I found the civil marriage index record in 1872 in the Limerick registration district. The groom's name was Edward Ransford (the spelling of his first and last name changes back and forth from Edmond Rainsford). The bride was Anne Bray. You can get a copy of the marriage record by writing to the GRO www.groireland.ie fill out their form and provide the year of marriage, registration district and volume and page number ( 5 and 513). A copy costs around 4 euros and you can have them send it to you via e-mail if you annotate the form.

Hello ,Ed and Sheila
I have had a look in our parish records and have found 16 children to Edmond and Anne Bray,
I didn't find a marriage record for the above , this probably means Anne was not from the parish , might be worth looking in neighbouring parishes,
Note below dates are baptismal dates-
- Bridget b 26 feb 1873 sponsors Pat Barry and Ellen Rainsford
- Edward b 31 JAn 1874 sp Daniel Rainsford and Mary Rainsford
- Patrick b 22 May 1875 sp David Rainsfors and Mgt Dywer
- Mary Anne b 25 Dec 1876 sp Matthew Shinnors and Ellen Bray
- Michael b 03May 1879 sp John Shinnors and Honora Powell
- Matthew b 02 Jan 1881 sp Michael Healy and Ellen Bray
- Maurice b 05 Feb 1882 sp Patrick Bray and Bridget Keily
- Mary b 28 July 1883 sp MAtthew Healy and Ellen Bray
- Anne b 20 Sept 1884 sp Jane Rainsford and Mgt Dwyer
- David b 12 June 1886 sp Wiliam Power and Bridget Rainsford
- Elizabeth b 29 June 1887 sp Edmund Rainsford and Johanna Rainsford
- Jereamiah b 25 May 1889 sp Edward Rainsford and Catherine Rainsford
- Honora b 18 Nov 1891 sp Thomas Healy and Bgt Dwyer
- Margaret b 11 Sept 1890 sp Patrick Healy and Bgt Dwyer
- Ellen b 06 Sept 1893 sp James Rainsford and MAria Fleming
- John b 23 Mar 1895 sp Patrick Rainsford and Johanna Fleming
There should also be a Catherine born ~ 1878 according to the census but she doesn't appear in the records , I am working from transcripted records so it may be possible that she was omitted during transcription - which i found doing my own records can occur quite often
I have highlighted three names in the above list , there are issues with the mother name on records for Bridget and Hanora the mothers names is BARRY not Bray and fror Edmond her name is Ryan , as above there may have been errors in Transcription
I have included them because some of them names match up with that of the census , Also sponsors are the same for some and also there are the only Edmond and Anne having children in Cappanahanagh at this time - but it is of course hard to prove unless you get the birthcert.
I will also looked into Edmond ( father) family and i found a possible match - according to census he was born about 1844
Edmond b 15 may 1843 to Edmund Rainsford and Bridget Shinnors - sp Edmund Rainsford and Ellen Brown.
There are a few Shinnors as sponsors to his children possibly realtions, If you think it might be him let me know and i can get you further info on his family and siblings.
Hope the above help in your research , don't hesistate if you have any questions
Regards
