I found some new information after I joined find my past.com . They have the old Irish newspapers on line and I found some interesting information. My  Carey family as well as their cousins the Ryans were involved in a  incident of attacking a farmers cows. It was called "whiteboyism" . Martin Carey my GGG   had almost a 1000  acres at the nearby Townland of Forkeala  he was renting off of Lord Cloncurry.  He was evicted in 1850 for getting behind on his rent.  In July of 1851 his two  sons and  cousins attacked some cows and horses at night belonging to  the new renters of Forkeala. Seven were arrested  Thomas Carey (Martin) ,James Carey (Sim) James Carey (Shuck) Jeremiah Carey , Michael Carey (Mick) ,Thomas Ryan and Michael Ryan They went to trial  and sentenced to be transported  for 10 years which meant going to Australia. I tried  to figure out the nicknames;  Thomas was the son of Martin, James Carey was married to a Sim which I found, James Carey(Shuck) I can't figure out, Michael Carey (Mick)  I assume was the son of Michael or his nickname was Mick. The newspaper gives a blow by blow account of the trial and the witness account of what went on. The article is two columns long and has a wealth of information about the family.

The prison records are also on line at Find my past.com. The Carey's and Ryans didn't go to Austalia but served time in several prisons in Ireland. They got out in 1859. There are notes written  in the records when they got out as to where they were born and  where they would like to go back to.  The notes name the area that they went back to  and some said they were going to America. Finding this much detail is incredible. As an example for  Thomas Carey the son of Martin it  has written in the notes "he was born in 1825 in the Parish of Abington Co Limerick and he lived in Newport before conviction. He went back to Killoscully Newport when he got out to be with his father before immigrating  to Brooklyn where his wife was at present. The constabulary notified the prisoners  intention of immigrating to America on Saturday June 11th 1859." I was able to find a Thomas Carey on the sailing ship the William Stetson arriving at New York July 20th 1859 by himself. It did take 4 to 6 weeks to get to America on the sailing ships. He was in the 1860 census on Court  st brooklyn with his wife and daughter.

Martin Carey is in Griffiths valuation of 1850 the sole tenant of the townland of Forkeala in Murroe and Boher from Lord Cloncurry. He was renting almost a 1000 acres. I don't believe he lived there but lived nearby in  Newport County Tipp. The rest of the Carey's are in Griifiths valuation living near Forkeala at the townland of Moher also in Murroe and Boher. They are renting 396 acres off of Steven W Roche esq. I believe this is the Townland where my Carey's originated from. I still have not figured out exactly who is who but they are all part of the same family. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has connections to this Carey family from the townland of Moher or  Newport. I have more info.
