  • Hello,

The Church of the Holy rosary was built in 1905 previous to that there was a church was where the Village Hall now stands, catholic people would have attended Mass there , Previous to that again there was another main one   which would have been located on the road between glenstal and five cross road( I dont know if you know the village)

Over the last few hundered years there have been many churches in the parish Clonkeen was possibly the first church in the parish 1100's , Annagh and  Boher(  all Still standing in some shape or form) . There is also as mass rock located in glenstal abbey grounds and this would also have been used for mass from many years 1600-1750.

Baptismal records and Marriage records for all these churches are located in the Church of the Holy Rosary and date from 1814 - to present day

    Hope this helps

  • Hi Aine,

Thank you for helping me. I'm trying to find church records prior to the year 1814 for my ancestors  who were Catholic and lived in the civil parish of Abington. Can you please help me locate church records prior to the year 1814?

  • Hi there will be no Catholic church records previous to this in Murroe Parish  as many parish didnt write them down before this and we are very lucky to have records back this far some parish only start in the mid 1840's

the only way you will get more info that far back is through other sources like headstones, wills land records etc.

    Sorry about that
