Help wanted to determine where James Ryan is from and which group (nickname) he is from. I have 2 great grandparents who are Ryans marrying in Melbourne and no one recalls if there ws a family nickname ... I presume there was. One being from Boher and the other from Doon. Through my research I have found James Ryan marrying Kate Jones in Hospital & Herbertstown parish on 13/02/1836. They then reside in Boher and I have found the baptisms for 9 children. Their daughter Catherine / Kate 1846 is my great grandmother. The only other sibling I have sourced info on is her sister Ellen 1860 who Married George Devane 12/06/1883. Other siblings were Mary 1840, Bridget 1844, Patrick 1848, James 1849, John 1852, Michael 1854 & Daniel 1863. Ellen's baptism mentions the place name of Boherclare
Kates parents were John Jones & Bridget Hayes - so in looking at naming conventions James's parents could be Patrick & Mary Ryan.
Any informaion and connections would be great

Dear Bernadette
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
It would be quite difficult to determine family nicknames as these are not often officially recorded on parish records. I have searched through Limerick and other neighbouring counties but could not find a marriage record for any of the siblings of Ellen.
A sibling may have remained on the original plot of land though. One way of tracing the line further is through the Griffith's Valuation and the later Revision/Cancelled Books. You can learn more about them here:
http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/revision-books.html
The Valuation Records are not yet available online so you would have to contact the Valuation Office about it:
I couldn't find a marriage record for John and Bridget but you might like to check irishgenealogy.ie just to be sure you have covered all bases. That site includes records for Carlow, parts of Cork, Kerry and Dublin.
Best wishes
Clare Doyle
