Looking for whereabouts of descendants of John Fleming and Mary McNamara. Per my research, they were wed on Feb 10 1839 in MURROE & BOHER, Co. Limerick, Ireland

Church baptisms of children born to John Fleming and Mary McNamara:

Surname Name Birth Yr Place
Fleming Ellen 1840 Co. Limerick
Fleming John 1844 Co. Limerick
Fleming Patrick 1847 Co. Limerick
Fleming Daniel 1849 Co. Limerick
Fleming William 1850 Co. Limerick
Fleming Michael 1852 Co. Limerick

Their daughter Ellen Fleming married my grandfather William Fitzgibbon on Jan 25 1868 in Caherconlish, Limerick, Ireland.

Any information on what happened to John, Ellen and their other children would be appreciated...thx!

  • We were in Murroe twice recently to look up family. We have a Patrick Fleming who was born in Murroe in 1833 then emigrated to Australia in 1864. He was son of Phillip and Hannah (Coghlan) who farmed along the Abington/ Boarmanshill road. Maybe on leased land from Matthew Barrington.

Big family of Flemings in Australia from original 6 brothers- James, Martin, Cornelius, Patrick, Thomas, Timothy .

    Any connections?

    Cheers

  • My father who was born in 1886 told me that he had 2 uncles Flemmings from Murroe, they were both in the RIC, and during an attempted arrest of a man on a train the man died, because of the fallout from this incident they both imiigrated to Austrailia and were never heard of again. They also had a brother whose name i believe was John who was a teacher in Murroe national school.

My grandmother was Katie Flemming from Murroe who married Corneilious Collins also from Murroe (post office). This may be of some help in your research.

  • Hello Paul,

From what I've seen, (married) 'kissin cousins' was a pretty common occurence back in the day.....lol!  So, I have no doubt that there was a family connection between the Flemings living in Abington parish in Co. Limerick.

In fact, according to the Griffiths Valuation record (see link below), there were many Flemings living in Abington parish (around area of Murroe) around 1851.

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNam…

Several of the names (Daniel, Michael, Patrick, William, etc.) seem to be in common use. There was a Daniel, Mary, Michael and Phillip all living in townland of BOARMANSHILL. It appears that Philip was your relative.  It's possible that the other Flemings in the same townland were related somehow to Philip.

My relative John Fleming farmed in Mongfune, which is also just outside Murroe, around the same time as your relative Philip. Going back further, per the Tithe Applotment records, Daniel Fleming farmed in Mongfune around 1826. I would think that Daniel and John were also related, possible father and son.

Do any of these relatives sound familiar to you? If so, please let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Silvia

P.S. I've been able to recently connect with a descendant of John's youngest son Michael, who also emigrated to Australia.
