My Great, Great, Great Grandfather Michael Glasheen married Elizabeth Bourke in Pallasgreen in 1820.  One of their sons, Thomas, my great, great grandfather emigrated to the US in the 1850s.  We have been here ever since.  I have visited Pallasgreen and have seen the "new" church, but have met no family members there.  Michael Glasheen

The Bourke family tree on my mothers side is quite extensive, however we do a Thomas as well as Elizabeth from County Limerick, Catholic Parrish of Murroe.

Where did Thomas emigrate to in the US? Most of the Bourke clan of Murroe emigrated to Chicago, where many of themn are buried at the Calvary catholic cemetary.

    Stay in touch!

  • David - My great great grandfather Thomas Glasheen, son of Michael Glasheen and Elizabeth (Bourke) Glasheen was born in 1834 in Coolnapisha(?) Ireland.  He was baptised in Pallasgreen and Templebraden.   He emigrated to the US in 1850, living in Massachusetts all his life.  He was naturalized in 1859.  In the 1860 census, he is shown living with his father, but there was no mention of his mother Elizabeth (Bourke).   His father and Mother were married in Pallasgreen and Templebraden on July 20, 1820.  A townland address of Cross was recorded, but it is not clear if that was for Michael or Elizabeth.   Does this connect?

  • Hi Michael

I can't say there is a connection. The Bourkes of Murroe however were only a few miles away from Pallasgreen, maybe 10 miles or so. All of our records show them residing in Chicago on the 1870 census. I will share any interesting information with you that make sense.

    Thanks

  • I remembered the name Glasheen from my family tree and looked her up.  This is only a scrap but my be helpful later.

Bridget Glashen of Corelish West, Pallasgreen b. abt 1790, married George Franklin abt 1812 at Pallasgreen and had Franklin children George, Hugh, Catherine, Anne, John, Thomas, born between 1812 and 1831 (I have baptismal records of Franklins but no more on Glasheen, except as they are sponsors).

Hello Ann - sorry, but I don't visit this site often.  My GGG grandfather Michael was born about 1788.   Your Bridget Glasheen was born about 1790.  Another, John Glasheen, was born about 1798.  Siblings?  Perhaps!  But alas, no proof.  John's parents may have been Martin and Margaret Leamy.  Any connections?  Who, if I may ask, were the Glasheen sponsors you referred to.
