Hello from New Zealand.........

I am searching for any descendants of Marcus/Mark O'Brien and his wife Eliza nee Brady together with any information about the family.

A daughter, Mary Ann emigrated to New Zealand around 1864. Said to have been born about 1842, although she may not have been entirely truthful about her age! Her baptism/birth not found.

A sibling, Ellen O'Brien, born about 1845, also emigrated to New Zealand at a later date.

Other possible siblings: Thomas, born about 1836. Elizabeth, born about 1840. Mark born about 1843 and John, born about 1849.

All born in Pallasgreen. [Or 'Old' Pallasgreen, as is shown in New Zealand records.]

I would appreciate any help, thank you.

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Grean civil parish shows a Mark O'Brien in Sunglen townland (Pallas Grean).

I also went to Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  I located an 1840 baptismal record for an Elizabeth O'Brien father Mark in the Pallasgrean RC records. There were 8 other baptismal records for an O'Brien child with father Mark but I did not check to see if they were all in Pallasgrean.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record. They recently started a subscription process.

  • Hi

The name Ellen O'Brien just lept out at me. Your Ellen is also my Ellen.

She came to New Zealand on the ship The Earl of Zetland in 1876. Also on board was John Patrick Horan. Whom she married in Dunedin New Zealand 0n 6/121876. Witnesses at their marriage were John's sister Bridget and Edmond Cosgriff ( Bridget later married Edmond ).

    Ellen died 30 Aug 1913 age 63

John died 20 Aug 1917            both are buried at Southern Cem in Dunedin
