I am interested in the Tuohy and McCormick families.  I am related to a John Tuohy who came to the United States whose parents’ I believe were John Tuohy and Mary Donovan.  They had 7 children all born in Pallasgrean and Templebredon, Co. Limerick.  John was baptized on 18 Nov 1817.  His siblings were Mary, Brian, Patrick, Thomas, Bridget and Denis born from 1814 to 1829.  Also found in the tithes of The Diocese of Cashel and Emily, Parish Pallis Grean, Co. Limerick, was a John, Thomas and Brian Touhy.

I believe that John and Mary’s son John immigrated to the United States possibly in 1847.  His name was spelled Twohey in the United States.  He married a Mary McCormick in Chicago, Illinois who was born Nov 1831 in Parish Creggane, Co. Tipperary and they had ten children, all born in Chicago, Illinois.  He was a laborer in Chicago and at the time of his death, a flagman working for the Union Stockyards in Chicago.  He died on 8 Apr 1892 and is buried in Evanston, Illinois at the Calvary Cemetery.  In his obituary it says he was from Parish Knock, Co. Limerick.

I am planning a visit to Ireland in August and would  greatly appreciate any further information about this family.

Thank you.

  • Dear Susie

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Added to the list of 7 baptims above is a Patrick baptised 09-Apr-1820. I haven't been able to locate a marriage record for the couple. RC records for Pallasgreen begin in 1811 so there will be no record for anyone baptised or married in the parish before that.
