My great granparents are Mary Ann/e Scanlan (daughter of John Trooper and Louiza Teskey (of Matrix Castle connection) and Daniel Corboy of who goodness knows where. I live in New Zealand and have traced my ancestry through to these people on the Irish side. Would like t know if they married in Ireland prior to leaving for NZ, or if there are records of their birth in Ireland. Both probably not Catholic...Daniels death cert states C of E...but I don't quite understand the situation re Catholic/protestant differences. They had only 1 child, my Granny Mary Jane Corboy in 1881 or 1882. They lived in Ross mining town, West Coast of South Island at that time. Can't find any death record for Mary Ann/e in NZ, only Daniel's one in about 1927.
Help with info re. Corboy name and likely lineage or parish links if possible, and any marriage records for this couple prior to sailing for NZ would be great. They must have sailed prior to 1882.

If Mary Anne and Daniel married in Ireland after 1864 there would be a record of it in civil records as this is the year that civil registration became mandatory in Ireland. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

If you can find their marriage certificate it should give you a place of origin for them.
Also, you can use Griffith?s Valuation to see what parishes in Limerick were recorded as having Corboy?s living there 1848-1864. I already did a search and 3 parishes were listed:
You could also try looking for information in church records, however you really need to know the parish name where the birth,death or marriage took place to know where to look. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin.
