Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking for information on the Sullivans in church records?
Most Catholic records are held locally. One site which may help you is the irishtimes website: here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Shanagolden follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
Also, both Catholic and C of I records are currently being uploaded free of charge to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html However, this is an ongoing project so not all records are available yet.
You could also check in the Tithe Applotment Books for some record of the Sullivans. This is a land record compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. It can be searched here:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Some other websites that may help in your search are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
Do you have any other information on the family that you can post? Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
