    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish for Tuogh civil parish is Cappamore. Baptismal records for that parish start in 1845 and marriages in 1848.

Records for Cappamore are on Roots Ireland but I was not able to find any records for Denis. There were no Brodericks in Tuogh civil parish when the Griffiths Valuation was taken in 1850  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/tuogh.htm

    Any other info? Siblings?

  • Thank you for your reply.  I do not know the names of Denis' siblings or if they came to America.  Years ago, and elderly cousin who knew Denis and Bridget,, told me that he did come from Limerick and thought the Parish was Tuogh.  American records show that he was born in 1849.  He sailed from Liverpool and arrived in Newton York on April 10, 1872.  He married Bridget Sullivan two weeks later on April 24, 1872 which suggests that they may have known each other in Ireland.  His death certificate lists his parents as Denis and Mary Scanlon Broderick.  Could there be a record for Mary Scanlon?  I've met many Irish here in Boston who say, "Broderick.  Oh, that's a Kerry name."  Another suggested that the name may be "Duogh" but I can't find it on any map.

Duagh is a civil and RC parish in North Kerry not far from Listowel town. Duagh civil parish is on the border with Co. Limerick. Here is a link to the parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0668

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records including Duagh. I did a quick search and could not find Denis. I did find a Mary Broderick record in Duagh where the father was Timothy Broderick and the mother Mary Scanlan.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

  • Thank you, again. What is autosomal DNA testing and how would I go about doing it?

Here is a link to an explanation  https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/test-types/autosomal-dna-snp-test-f…

There are two main companies: Ancestry DNA and Family Tree DNA. I have tested with both and prefer Family Tree but you may prefer Ancestry. The test costs around $99 but there were some sales. You can find their numbers on the Internet.
