Looking for information about my Grandparents ancestors. Grandmother Kathleen Lennon who married a Patrick Ganley and lived in Whiterock, Longford, Co. Longford.

Kathleen was born 12/02/1915 and died 11/11/2005 in London.

Patrick Ganley was born 1909.

Kathleen's parents were believed to be a Patrick Lennon and Bridget Mackinley.

  • I wonder if this could be Patrick Ganley and his family in 1911:

There seem to be a few Ganly families in that general area. I didn't find a Morrin on the map, but did see Mornin about 10 miles SE of Longford,

If you search the census there are some Ganleys, in Cashel West but no Patrick.

There was an unmarried  27 year old Patrick Lennon in the same DED in 1911 with his family:

I did find both names in the same area in the Griffiths valuation :

I had not luck searching for Mackinley in Longford.

Maybe there is someone local that could help you to confirm parishes and  look into records for these families.

  • Dear Cathy,

Whiterock is close to Longford town, in the parish of Templemichael and Ballymacormack. One option is to use the Longford Genealogy Centre, Dublin Street, Longford. You can email longroot@iol.ie. It has the parish registers in database format. There are fees for availing of the service. You could also consider writing to our local newspaper, The Longford Leader, email newsroom@longford-leader.ie. The connection is recent and I am sure there are people around who know the familes in question.

    Kind regards,

    Martin Morris
