Hi,

I am looking for any information on Thomas O'Connor and his descendents.  Thomas was born in Longford Town on 7 November 1888 and emigrated to New York in March 1911.  He ('Thomas O Conner') arrived at Ellis Island on the ship Campania on 25 March 1911.

Thomas' parents were Michael O'Connor and Mary Judge.  Michael operated a butcher's shop in Main Street, Longford and many of the family worked in the shop.  Thomas was also a butcher by trade.  Michael & Mary O'Connor moved to Longford from Carrick on Shannon in 1883.

My understanding is that Thomas got married (don't know where) and had at least two children - possible names Thomas and Mary.

Thomas had a brother John, who lived in Boston, MA.  John arrived at Boston on the ship Carmania on 27 February 1927. Contact with Thomas was lost sometime in the 1930s.

I have been able to locate a Thomas O'Connor in the 1930 and 1940 census returns with dates of birth in Ireland in 1888, but have no idea where the family is now.

All help appreciated,

Clive

If you have any addresses for John in Boston and Thomas in New York, I will check the directories for you--those are a good starting point.  Beth  from Boston

  • Hi Beth,

I met the O'Connor's in Dorchester, Boston and all is well in that regard.

Some possible addresses I came across for Thomas O'Connor in New York are :

1911 :  2341 Second Avenue, New York  /  also friend John Brady at 311 West 47 Street, New York

    1930 Census : 118 East 117 Street NYC, Manhattan  :  Thomas & Margaret, children Thomas & Mary

1940 Census : 219 Midland Avenue, Richmond, New York : Thomas & Margaret, children Thomas, Anna, John, Patricia

1942 : 332 East 70th Street, New York  :  per Draft Registration Card.

I just don't know which of these relate to 'my' Thomas O'Connor, if any.

    Any help appreciated,

    Clive

  • Additional Information recently found :

Thomas O'Connor married Mary McLean on 10 September 1916 in the Sacred Heart church, on 457 West 51st Street, Manhattan, New York.  The marriage certificate notes that Mary came from Ireland - her parents were Martin McLean and Whinnie (?) Boyle.
