I am looking for any information about my 3xgreat grandparents.   I have a baptismal record for my great great grandfather John Biggin, dob 25th March 1825, baptised  27th March 1825.  Parish/District is Granard, county Co. Longford, denomination Church of Ireland. Under notes it states Rev. G Thompson Curate.   It names John's father as James Biggin and Mother Susan.   The name on the record is shown as "John Biggin/bath and father as James Biggin/bath - mother Susan not recorded"

Someone on Rootsweb sent me this and the record was taken from  www.rootsireland.ie.

I have now come up against a brick wall as I cannot find any record of a James Biggin(s) or Susan Biggin(s) or any marriage for them or if John had any siblings.

John came over to Sheffield, Yorkshire by 1841 and was staying with an Isaac Biggin working as his apprentice cutler.   He married in England and as far as I know never returned to Ireland.   One census shows him as coming from Longford, another from Dublin.   Any help would be appreciated.Ireland Reaching Out - www.irelandxo.com

    Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42

Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.

Perhaps it may be an idea to write to parish priest for possible assistance as not all records may have been made available on rootsireland.ie

You could also try contacting Longford Genealogy for possible assistance, however a fee may apply.

    Here are their contact details:

    Longford Genealogy,

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
