Mary Masterson was born to Hugh Masterson and Briget Donohoe on 4 March 1834 according to "image 214 of 645 in film # 007907203 Parochial Registers of Granard (Longford)
Parents Hugh Masterson and Brigid Donohoe.
Godparents were John and Rose Masterson
Residence Rincoola".

I knoq there were other Mastersons in the area from whom Nicole Kidman descended and I am interested in developing the Masterson line.

  • Here is a link to the 1833 Tithe listings for Granard civil parish  http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587446/004587446_00070.pdf  There are four Masterson plots in Rincoola: John, Thomas, Hugh and Hugh Mathew.  I assume Hugh and Hugh Mathew are two different people. The Griffiths Valuation head of household listing 20 years later again shows five Masterson plots in Rincoola: Hugh, Mathew, Thomas, Patrick and Bridget. Bridget was likely the widow of one of the 1833 Mastersons maybe John.

Granard RC records go back to the late18th century so you should be able to use a subscription site like Roots Ireland to build out your tree.

I see Roger has helped you already here.

Just in case you are not aware, there was a mini-census of Granard RC Parish taken in December 1834, names only - no ages or relationships, and fortunately records for Rincoolagh are included. See the following pages in the Granard RC Parish records, County Longford for information:

Therefore, there could have been up to seven (or more) Masterson families residing at Rincoolagh Townland, Granard RC Parish in 1834, possibly headed by:

    Mary Masterson

    Mathew Masterson

    Thomas Masterson

    John Masterson

    Owen Masterson

    Hugh Masterson

    Michael Masterson

I see the following Masterson Occupiers recorded at Rincoolagh Civil Parish, County Longford at the time of the Tithe Applotment Books in 1823:

    Widow Masterson

    http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587446/00…

    John Masterson

    Thomas Masterson

Hugh Mathew Masterson [probably Hugh Masterson, son of Mathew Masterson]

Hugh Masterson Carragh [Carragh Townland lies within about 3 miles of Rincoolagh Townland, Carragh being in neighbouring Abbeylara Parish]

    Hugh Masterson

Agan, there could have been 7 Masterson Occupiers at Rincoolagh in 1823.
