My ancestors emigrated from Granard, through Liverpool, to the United States in 1849-1850.  I have visited Granard, and have viewed the original baptism records -- fascinating.  There is nobaptismal  record for my g-g-grandfather, Patrick  Macken, b: April 1837, and no marriage record for his parents.  They seem to have settled on land in Ballygilchrist with other family members, so I wonder if they might have moved there from a nearby parish or even another county.  Is that a reasonable assumption?  Is there a place from which others moved to Granard in the 1830's?  Also, are there any others in this community who might have ancestors in common with me?  John Macken married Julia Heary/Heany. They had about 8 children, settled in the U.S. in Hinsdale (Berkshire County) Massachusetts.
