Hello,
I am trying to find a birth record of my great great great grandfather Hugh Quinn who was born during the summer (June/July/August) timeframe between 1838-1841. According to Dr. Tyrone Bowes, my Y-DNA 67 results suggest that Quinn ancestors originate from Drumlish in Co. Longford.
I do not know his parent's names, however, by trade Hugh Quinn was a carpentar and I suspect that his father was one as well. Hugh Quinn immigrated to the United States between 1850-1860, so he wouldn't appear on any documents in Ireland after that date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
I did a search for Hugh Quinn in Killoe parish in the two land records pertaining to Ireland:
There was a Hugh Quinn recorded in Mucknagh townalnd, Killoe civil parish in 1831 in the Tithe Applotment Books:
He was also recorded in the same townland in the later Griffith?s Valuation, 1854:
It is possible that this Hugh may be Hugh Senior.
If you are looking for Hugh?s birth record you will have to look in church records as civil registration did not begin until 1864 in Ireland.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Killoe parish, follow this link:
As you can see from the above link Longford Genealogy have copies available. If you would like to contact them here is their email, however fee may apply: longroot@iol.ie
You could also try searching at www.familysearch.org to see if there are any records available there. I already did a very quick search and a Hugh Quinn came up listed as the Father of the Bride for Maria Quinn?s wedding in Drumlish, Longford 1866..do you know of any siblings that Hugh may have had?

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/longford/index.html
Longford Library: http://www.longfordlibrary.ie/lib_arc_home.aspx
I hope some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

I believe we are relatives. We are cross-related to the Quinn family through several different family-Heslin, Murphy, and Igoe. Have a great day, Anya

Hi Anya, my wife is descended from the Quinn's from Killoe, I believe the Hugh Quinn senior born circa 1807 and died 1872 Mucknaugh may be the father of a James Quinn who married a Winny Morren, He may be the sibling of the Hugh Quinn you are looking for. My wife's family line lead to Scotland. If you have managed to find any more information please let me know.
