Hi,
I'm trying to find more information on my ggggrandparents and gggrandparents who I believe were born or lived in Co. Longford.
Michael Skelly was born about 1830 and immigrated to the US (New York) around 1840. His parents are James Skelly and Mary Rowan. Although I cannot find immigration records, I'm assuming that they traveled as a family as Michael would be a teenager if the dates on documentation I've found are correct. Once here Michael Skelly married Mary Farrell, also from Ireland (not sure what area), and had 6 children that I know of, all born in NY: Edward (1851-1878), Margaret (1853-1893), James (1855-1926), Thomas-my ggrandather (1855-1926), Mary (1865-?) and John (1867-?). Thomas Skelly married Ellen Stubbs (1858-1926) who parents were also from Co. Longford.
Patrick Stubbs (1831-1897) and Johanna Farrell (1837-1908). Johanna Farrell immigrated to New York (US) around 1853. Her parents are Richard Farrell and Margaret Lynch. Patrick and Johanna had 6 children that I know of, all born in New York: Ellen 'Nellie' Stubbs (1861-1944), Thomas (1864-1931), Margaret (1866-1871), Peter (died in infancy), Josephine (died in infancy), Mary Agnes (1873-1909).
I'd appreicate hearing from anyone if this sounds familiar, or if you have any suggestions on how to locate a parish. All of these names are pretty common.

Kathy:
Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1832 baptismal record for a Michael Skelly with parents James and Mary Rowan. The record is in the Newtowncashel RC church records. This church would be in Cashel civil parish in the southwest corner of Co. Longford.
Roots is a pay site to view a record. They recently changed their process and you may have to get a one month subscription.
