The above couple married 10 July 1845 at Taghshinny, Longford, Ireland according to records held by Ancestry.

I strongly suspect they had a daughter born in Massachusetts in 1849 named Sarah Jane Lloyd.  Her mother Margaret (no maiden name shown) died in 1850 or 1851.  At this point I believe father & daughter returned to Ireland in Rathowen, Westmeath.  Sarah Jane married about 1874/5 in Westmeath to Robert Finlay Robinson who was born in Donaghedy, Tyrone.

I am seeking details about Margaret McCormick and her family.  Thank you

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil registration of non-RC marriages began in 1845. Those records were supposed to show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. However, the record for the William Lloyd/Margaret McCormick does not show the names of the fathers. Possibly because it was the first year of a new process. I looked on Roots Ireland for a baptismal record for Margaret back to 1815 but there were no Margaret McCormick baptisms in the Taghshinny church. (There were other Margaret McCormick records but without knowing the parents names there is no way to verify.).

The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Taghshinny parish does show one McCormick and five McCormack records. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/longford/taghshinny.htm

  • Thanks Ross. I am doing this for my grandfather's grandfather's brother's family.  I will suggest they bite the bullet and spend the money on a marriage certificate and hope there are more details on it.

(It looks like you're just as addicted as I am to be working over Christmas!)

  • There are still Lloyds in Rathowen Co Westmeath who must be related to these Lloyds. McCormick family in Tashinny into the 1970's , but don't think they are there now. Both families were Church of Ireland and there are cousins of the McCormicks still in the Tashinny area.

  • From the Irish Civil regostrations I find a Sarah LLoyd marriage  to  a Robert Robinson at the Church of Ireland Parish (town name is difficult to read)  in Granard  Westmeath on the 20th of April 1875, See the link to this document below:

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1875/11206/8106740.pdf

Sarah was 23 years old at the time of the marriage, her father was listed as William LLoyd and she was living in Rathowen Westmeath at the tie of the Marriage Does this look plausible?

There is a Sarah Robinson in the 1901 Census a widow living in Gurteenreevagh Ballinalee, Longford

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001024261/

However she was born in Longford
