I am planning to visit Crossmaglen in June and was planning to spend the night there.  The Dublin friend who is loaning us his car said he doesn't think it would be safe for his car (from the Republic of Ireland) with three women in it to spend the night in Crossmaglen, due to unrest in the area.  Is this a legitimate fear???

  • Myself & my daughter have lots of workmates  who live in Crossmaglen & there is no "unrest"  I dont know if there is a hotel there but if your Dublin friend is worried you could stay in the Glencarn Hotel in Castleblayney or any of the hotels in Carrickmacross. We would drive through Culloville & we purchase some of our electrical goods there & have never encountered any problems.

But now I am not too sure of your friends fear......3 wild women on tour........maybe that's his problem...

    Enjoy your trip!

  • "Three Wild Women on Tour!"

I have a new title for our genealogical tour of Ireland!

That was such a DELIGHTFUL reply!

Perhaps I should restate my friend's concern:

Is his Republic of Ireland car likely to draw negative attention?

Is there anything I can say to him (besides passing on your previous message) that might assuage his fears?

    warmly, Catherine
