I am trying to trace my great-great grandfather's family.  His name was Patrick J. Breen born July 2 1869 in Dundalk Co.Louth.  He immigrated to the US in 1886 and settled in New Jersey, marrying Gertrude Higgins in 1892.   His parents were Thomas Breen and Mary McGrave (aka McCrave and McCrane).  His siblings were:

John-b. Jan.22, 1865

Peter-b.Jan.20, 1867

John-b. May 14, 1873

Mary-b.Apr.3, 1876

Michael-b. Apr.21, 1879

I have not found any records of his parents or siblings immigrating and was wondering what happened to them.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Dana

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the family may have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).

Some sites that may be helpful are:

  • I understand that this post is old, but I may have some information for your search. I may have some information on Peter Breen (b.1867)

I'm currently doing some searching myself (and have been for quite some time), reply here and maybe we can find a platform to discuss this on.
