Hi, a week ago I posted a message in search of Mary Brigid McShane on the general Ireland board as I did not know where she was born. I had a couple of very helpful responses and have now found her birth date!

Mary Brigid McShane, born 18.10.1924, Dundalk, Louth

Closest relative in 1944 when she was nursing at Milford Hospital, Hampshire, England was her father -

O’Keill’s Park
Clonas
Co. Monaghan

Any help on further information would be much appreciated. We will of course continue our search this end too.

  • Dear JEK

As most of the family history society online records are available only up until the 1900s and thereabouts, you could have a look on www.ancestry.com or www.familysearch.org to see if you can find any further records for Mary. You would need to find out for example, if Mary was born in Dundalk or somewhere outside the town, in which case it could be a different parish. When you have done this, you would have to contact the Parish Priest for a copy of the baptism cert or alternatively, the General Register Office (GRO) for a copy of the birth cert: https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General-Register-Office.aspx

In relation to Clones, that address you list could possibly be O?Neill Park, Clones, Co. Monaghan situated, I think, near the church in Clones town. I am not aware of any O'Keil's Park.

Best of luck with your search

  • Thanks Clare, we believe it must be O'Neills Park, and have also found a Mary Brigid McShane married in Clones in 1946 (this must be her!) On ancestry.com the way they show marriage records is by showing about 6 names which were near each other on the register, which means we have 3 possible spouse surnames! I suppose contacting the church in Clones would be able to claify who she married.
