Hi, This is a great place! So happy you started this and looking forward to updates.
My 2X Gr. Grandparents were Patrick & Mary Woods Murphy who lived in Knockreagh, Inishkeen, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. Mary was still living in 1901 age 62 with her daughter Annie, single age 25, at their family place. 1911 census has Annie married to George FITZPATRICK living in Keenoge, Inishkeen and the homestead in Knockreagh empty. Annie and George have 4 children, the oldest Patrick, being 7 yrs and the census says they have been married for 9 years.
I am looking to back trace my Gr Gr Grandparents, to get pictures of their gravestones and contact anyone who may have pictures or stories about the family. Their son Edward came to PA, USA, married and had children, who had children then one had me!
This family is Roman Catholic, fiercely so I would say.
I am also interested in researching 3Gr Annie Murphy Fitzpatrick's children and their children etc...to see if I have any "cousins" left around the area. It would be nice to touch bases with them.
I am hoping to compose a book on my Irish ancestry.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Shelly Murphy Niehart

Hi
Thank you for your message.
If you haven't already - You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/ for earlier generations of this family.
Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the family may have had (as it usually passed on to a relation).
Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ?browse? an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.
Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at ). www.failteromhat.com
Some site which might be useful to your search are:
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
British parliamentary papers on Ireland can be found at: http://eppi.dippam.ac.uk/documents/9824/eppi_pages/215093
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
