I'm seeking information of Patrick T. Finnegan born in Drogheda on 20 October 1852.  He emmigrated to the U.S. in 1872 and returned to Drogheda in 1880 to marry Anne Flanagan who according to his obituary "was born in a cottage next to his father's and to whom he had pledged his troth".  Any information you could provide is much appreciated.

  • Mary,

You will find the church records on www.rootsireland.ie    and some counties on www.irishgenealogy.ie.

I looked for the marriage record of patrick and anna.  I found only one record with the names patrick finnegand and flanagan.

this was in st.pauls Arran Quay in 1880.   This is in the north dublin genealogy centre but is probably in the same dioscese as Drogheda.

I found a birth record for a patrick finnegan in the same parish in 1852.

If you get the marriage certificate you will probably find the names of their parents and then you could try looking for a baptismal cert.

when you have the names you could always go to www.groireland.ie to order official birth certs.

    Hope this helps,

    Anne

  • Anne,

Thanks for the leads.  As happens so often they were inconclusive.  The marriage certificate has the bride's name as Mary with father's name as Patrick.  Her obituary lists her as Anne E. Flanagan and father as Peter.

The baptismal record has this Patrick baptized nine months before the date of birth I have!  I appreciate the direction and will keep looking with the information I have.

    Thank you

    Mary
