Mr gg grandfather, Patrick Moyles was born in 1819 and his obituary states that he was born in County Louth --- but does not indicate the parish.  On Patrick's Death Certificate, it lists his father as Edward Moyles and his mother as Mary Coonelly(spelling found on his death certificate.)  Patrick married a Mary Curran (whose obituary also says she was born in County Louth).  Have found a baptism for her possibly but occurred in Termonfeckin.

In the meantime,  I have found an online baptism record for Edward Moyles on March 29, 1795 which lists the address as Ardee Parish and Ardee District.  Denomination as Roman Catholic and his parents listed as Joseph Moyles and Mary Carroll.  Sponsors listed as Thomas Donnelly and Jane Finegan.  (rootsireland.ie)

Brendan has contacted me to advise the baptism of a Joseph Moyles in 1825 which might be a sibling of Patrick.  Anyway there could be any listings of Moyles' in Ardee records?

Patrick Moyles died in March of 1901 and Mary Curran Moyles died in December 1901, upstate New York where they settled afteer arriving at the Port of New York in 1846 aboard the Ship United Kingdom which departed Liverpoole and arrived at the Port of NY on July 14, 1846.

Would love to hear from anyone that might be able to help put a few more pieces of this puzzle together!

  • Hi Colleen,

You can check a listing of what catholic records exist and where they might be found here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Louth&parish=Ardee&churchid=183

It may be worth while to contact the local parish offices for assistance.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

  • Have found a document for church baptism (through the IFHF) recording baptism in Parish District of Termonfeckin for Mary Curran and the date is correct as is her parents names, which also appear on her death cerrificate. How might  I determine which Church the baptism might have occured in?

    many thanks,
