I will be visiting County Tyrone Thur 5/11 to Sun 5/14 staying at a B&B in Keady.  My 3rd great grandfather Owen McQuaid was married to Sarah and they were listed as from Parrish Killeshal, Co Tyrone Canada in the records for thier son Jame's wedding to Maria Quinn in Kingston, Canada in 1848. James has a brother also named Owen and sister Margaret.  Owen McQuaid married Sarah McGrath in Tullyallen, Tyrone in 1819 per Cathoic Parish Registers.

Are their any related McQuaids in the area?  Glad to meet and share information about the MCQUAID/MCQUADE family in Canada and US.  I live in California, USA. Any suggested sources for local informatio and/or records?

  • Hi Daniel

your query has been posted in County Louth where there is a Tullyallen and it refers to Tyrone in what is now Northern Ireland, I checked the townlands of Tyrone and there is a Tullyallen in Donaghmore civil parish and there and I think this is where you are looking for. https://www.townlands.ie/tyrone/

Often a letter to the local paper may elicit a response from people of those names but I will briing your attention to the other volunteers but I do not see a volunteer listed in Tyrone.

Do not hesitate to revert if you have more questions.

  • The records from St Mary's Cathedral in Kingston Canada note that Owen McQuaidand Sarah McGrath are from parish of Killeshal, Co Tyrone in 1848 and in another  record it says Donoughmore in 1946.  Their marriage was recorded in Tullyallen in 1819.  I am assuming Killeshal is in the barony of Dungannon.  Is that where I can find Dunoughmore parish?

  • Hi Daniel

    this is the information

    • Tullyallen (Tulaigh Alainn) , Donaghmore Civil Parish, Barony of Dungannon Middle, Co. Tyrone 224 A, 3 R, 30 P

The website is https://www.townlands.ie/ hopefully the link works this time but Google townlands Ireland should do.

In case of being misled about places there is also a Tullyallen Hill in Tyrone and a Tullyvannon. Martin another volunteer notified the parish of Kileeshil http://www.killeeshilparish.com/ and searched Griffiths valuation on Failte Rohmat site but I prefer Ask aobut Ireland as there are maps in separate windows than require a bit of manipulation, see http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ or http://failteromhat.com/griffiths/tyrone/killeeshill.php

    He also found on Wikipediahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aghaginduff

It should be possible to visit the local or nearest library to see if any of these names occur in the voting list with an address in the area.

I am rechecking the notice board  as te notifications are only sent every 24 hours around 10pm each evening so feel free to post sooner.
