Greetings Gents
I wonder if you could use your expertise to assist Michael Hickey who posted yesterday to Gortnahoe RC (South Tipperary)
His mother Norah Theresa Hickey was born 23/7/1930 in Gortnahoo Tipperary
Her parents were from Lisduff Urlingford; that's all he has.
I've tried all the sites I know to no avail so am requesting your second opinions please.
Cheers

Col:
I looked at this message yesterday but after some searching gave up. Tonight, I went on www.findmypast.ie and looked for birth index records for Norah Theresa Hickey, With variants there were 274 possible records but none were in the Urlingford registration district (which includes Gortnahoe/Gortnahoo). I also looked on the 1911 census for the Urlingford DED. There were two Hickey families listed. Possibly Norah's father was one of the younger boys. Sorry I could not be more helpful.

I can?t see this birth either. There?s no Hickey birth registered in Urlingford in 1930 at all. Nor a Nora anywhere in the general area, looking a few years either side. I suppose I?d be inclined to look for the baptism, which for 1930 will involve looking at the Gortnahoo parish records (which won?t be on-line for the 1930s). So Michael would need to write to the pp or ask someone to make a personal visit to view them.

Yes I am suggesting you write to the parish priest to see if he can confirm the date and location of the baptism, plus the child?s full name. He will also be able to give the parents names, which is information you are likely to want.
Regarding the possible birth reference you have, the key information is Tipperary town Jul ? Sept 1930 Volume 3, page 381. (Ignore the other references).
However all I would say is that that birth was registered in Tipperary town and so that doesn?t tie in with a birth in Gortnahoo (which would be registered in Urlingford).
You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for ?4. http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx
You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can?t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.
Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don?t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.

There are 6 townlands called Lisduff in Co Tipp. One of them falls within the administrative area of Urlingford civil registration office (where you go to register births etc.). So I assume that?s the one you have been told about. That?s also within the RC parish of Gortnahoe. So that fits comfortably enough. However there?s no birth for Nora registered in Urlingford in the civil records as far as I can see, which is why I suggest you try to verify the birth and her full name with the parish priest.
I can?t see any Hickey households in Lisduff in the 1911 census, so if they come from there, they must have moved there after 1911.
