My Great Grandmother Sarah Mulkeen was born about 1849. She married Thomas Holian in 1877 and lived at Derrymore, Bekan.  She applied for an old age pension in 1920, and a search of the 1851 Census revealed that she was living at the Townland of Coogue North and that she was the daughter of John Mulkeen and Mary.........? The record listed 4 other siblings living in 1851.  A sister Anne who would marry Martin McGarry of Cloontumper in 1865.  The other siblings: Bridget b. 1837, Honora, b. 1844,Mary b. 1845 and Martin b. 1846.  Of these siblings, I do not have knowledge of their marriage.  I was told that Martin, although the only son, was 'disinherited' because he married an English woman.  The land did indeed pass to the husband of a younger sibling, when John passed on.   The younger siblings: Ellen b. 1858, married John Feeney in 1879 and became the landholder after John's passing in 1887. The only other sibling I am aware of was Catherine b. 1860, who married Michael McHugh of Kiltimagh in 1882.

John had brothers: Martin b. 1810, who married Bridget Morley; Patrick b. 1815; Michael b. 1818 who married Bridget Kenny   I have found some of the descendants of most mentioned heretofore, but I would ideally like to learn the surname of John's wife Mary, whom I believe died in 1882.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Aghamore parish do not begin until 1864 too late for your purposes. In the event, they were married in a different parish, I did a search on Roots Ireland from 1823-1837 in Mayo for a John Mulkeen but got no record.

I don't think you will find her maiden name on her civil death record. There is an 1883 civil death index record for a Mary Mulkeen in the Claremorris registration district.

    First name(s)MaryLast nameMulkeenBirth year1813Age at death70Registered year1883Registered quarter/yearOct - Dec 1883Registration districtClaremorrisVolume4Page88

You may want to look on Ancestry to see if there is a family tree that may include your family. You also may want to consider autosomal DNA testing to see if you match someone who has more info on the Mulkeen family and Mary's maiden name.
