My cousin and I are excited about our trip to Ireland in September, when we will be visitng County Mayo. Our 2x great grandfathers came from Mayo. Michael Nicholson (born 1839) and his wife Bridget O'Neil Nicholson (whose parents names were Barney O'Neil and Rose Karl O'Neil) immigrated to the US (NY and PA) in 1866. Michael may have been from Westport Thomas Collins (born 1826) and his wife Helen Gallagher Collins came from Castlebar. Date unknown --and settled in Goshen IN Helen's father's name was Anthony Gallagher--possibly from Donegal.
Would love information --and would love to meet Irish family!

Hi Kathleen,
I have attached the birth entries for Michael Nicholson and Thomas Collins from rootsireland.
Michael Nicholson's birth year is 1832 but he was the only match for his name in Mayo. The parish Aughower is very close to Westport.
Thomas Collins's birth year is exact. I was too lazy to go through all the parishes for him; jsut go to rootsireland and register. Search and get the entry then click the magnifying glass at the right of the entry which allows you to search the parishes one by one. I tried the Castlebar ones but no luck.
If you apy for the record you will get parents' names and the parish.
You may want to try searching for the others you mentioned.
If you google the Irish phone book you can search Residential for Collins Castlebar and you'll find 9 listings you could write to; there were no Nicholsons in Westport however.
I also suggest you search for Castlebar on 'find my parish' above and join that site.
