I am searching for information about my GGG-grandparents- Mary Connell and Andrew Cassidy, both from County Cavan. They were born c 1819 and 1811, respectively, had 3 children in Ireland (Francis, b. 1842, Mary, b. 1846, and James, b. 1848), immigrated to the US around 1850, and died in 1867 (Mary) and 1873 (Andrew) in New York, NY. Andrew had at least 3 siblings- Ann, who also immigrated to NY and died in 1865, Francis, who immigrated to South Carolina c 1840, and Thomas, who in 1870 was still living in Ireland, according to the will of Francis Cassidy (his brother), probated in 1874. Thank you for any information!

  • Hi Victoria,

Unfortunately the church (Roman Catholic) records for Annagh only exist from 1845.

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com

You should also try checking the local newspapers from the time they died to see if there is any additional information on the death notices.

If you know more about the emigration details, such as the port of arrival, you might be able to find out additonal details from the information the siblings gave when they arrived.

Hopefully someone in the local community will be able to pass you on more information.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
