Does anyone know if there are any surviving records from the Irish Mission Schools. I'm particularly interested in the one that operated in Gortmellia in the mid 1800's.

  • Dear sydpinman

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

From the small about of checking I have done it seems that these schools were run by the Church of Ireland. In that case I would think that any records surviving would be in the hands of the Representative Church Body Library in Rathfarnham, Dublin:

However, the National Archives, Dublin may hold some records as there was an obvious education function and any records created and retained by the Education Board post -1831 may be retained by the Archives. You can contact the Duty Archivist in Dublin:

I wonder would you gain by contacting the ICM directly about where their records are? http://irishchurchmissions.ie/about/history/

Let me know how you get on

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Clare

I've sent a couple of emails to your links.

I sent an email to ICM a while back but got no reply.

    Fingers crossed this time.

I'll let you know how I went.

    Cheers
