~~My name is John Graven. I live in Runcorn,Cheshire. I've traced my family tree back to a James Graven(born c1846 in the Castlebar area). He was married to an Alir(Celia?) Jordan(born c1837). They had a son John (born c1865) before moving to Middlewich,Cheshire between 1865 and 1869, where they had more children.
Someone found a Mayo birth/baptism record for a James Gravin & Celia Jerdin having a son John in 1865 living in Thomas St (Castlebar?). This might be them.
Due to the loss of Irish Census records in a fire I'm struggling to go any further. However, I'm excited to find that a surname so rare in England is still common today in the Westport/Castlebar area.
I've already had a response from someone who found a James Graven(b1841) which might be my ancestor.
Any help appreciated.

Hello John, I see the chap born in Islandeady in Mayo mother a Walsh, there name appears in Mayo records that are available on Roots Ireland, at that remove we use church records and they can be patchy but I see a few marriages every decade or so, civil records are free online post 1864, start year, the 1901 and 1911 census are also free online, let me know if you want the link. The civil records are here, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Click on civil and sign in, church records are not on for Mayo,
I looked at two private Facebook pages on Mayo Genealogy, Mayo Genealogy Group has at least one person seeking Graven and the Mayo DNA site also has a least one person seeking Graven but you need to have done DNA to be on it.
If you have a specific query please repost as we have more volunteers now than back when you posted.
