Hi, I'm looking for information on the Berry family. My maternal 2xgreat Grandmother was Honor(i)a (changed name to Hannah) Berry 1816-1888) in Islandeady. She married Thomas Melford (1814-1878) and they had six children, four of which were born in Co.Mayo in the Islandeady/Burrishoole areas. Around 1851/52 they moved to Sheffield, England (Thomas and Rose Ann are found on the 1851 Sheffield census). I would appreciate any help you can give me. The information I need is who her parents and siblings were and did she marry in Islandeady?

    The Mormon Church has microfilmed the records for the Catholic Church in Islandeady starting in 1839. The marriage may have occurred before then but the four baptisms may be there. You have to order the film online at www.familysearch.org and view the film at a local Mormon Family History Center.

    I also looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Islandeady and Burrishoole parishes. No Berrys in Islandeady but a few in Burrishoole.

  • Hi Roger, Thanks for your message. The Melfords and most of the Berrys will have moved away from Ireland by 1856 because of the potato famine. However, I will look on the LDS website as you suggested. I really want to find records of Honor(i)a (Hannah) Berry and her family as I think the Melford family were actually from Northern Ireland, Co. Antrim and Co. Down areas.
