Hi

I am looking for info on my grandmothers family.  She and her siblings with her parents moved from Drogheda to Salford near Manchester around 1900.

Her name was Ellen Lambe she was born in 1890.  Registered in the district of St Peters, Drogheda, Co Louth. Her and her family moved to Ship Street in Drogheda and her brothers and sisters were baptised in St Marys church.  Her father was Patrick Lambe and her mother was Teresa Tighe. I understand that Patricks father was John Lambe and his mother was Ellen Tully.  I would love to know more about her family. I never met her as she died in Salford in 1956 before I was born.

I would be grateful for any info.

Thanks

  • Hello Cathy

you are ok on the places, St Mary's is the parish on the South of the Boyne River in Louth but in the religious diocese of Meath. St Peters is on the north of the Boyne in Drogheda, Co. Louth but on the diocese of Armagh. Both parishes are in Drogheda.

Civil records for everybody here started in 1864 so should be available if you had dates. If so the Government Website at http://www.groireland.ie/ and can be done online for a small fee, circa ?4.

The census for 1901 and 1911 are available here http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ a quick by me did not locate the right person. The search defaults to 1911.

Ship Street is in St Mary's on the south bank of the river and I think the houses were for dock workers as Drogheda was a busy port with regular runs to Liverpool. It is run down now and only some houses are occupied.

St Marys cemetery has two Lambe graves a Patrick Joseph (Sonny) Lambe died 1946, his son Eamon in 1935 and his wife much later and a daughter plus another 1 person grave more recent.

Cathy I am not comfortable as we get nearer to living people sticking names on notice boards or even recently deceased if you email me at Mailto:ohalloran.pat@gmail.com I will see if I can find out any more.

The St Peters grave yard is on line and I will send you the link anyway and the local phonebook. I have the book of the St Mary's graveyard opened in 1902 only.

brief records of other graveyards here plus other stuff. D
