My grandfather x 3, Robert Groghan is buried together with his wife Honoria in the grave of a Kirkpatrick at Fahy Old Cemetery.
From the graveyard subscription I have been given it would appear that the grave has initially been erected by the wife of w Kirkpatrick. Her name was Alice and before being married she was Alice McEvly.
I can't find anymore details out about w Kirkpatrick apart from the inscription states he died 7 May 1845 and his wife Honoria died 31 December 1893. I can't find a register of these deaths when I search online. I am also curious, as Kirkpatrick I have always thought of as a Scottish name and perhaps being more popular around Ulster and with a protestant connection than Co Mayo and I was hoping someone might know more of any Kirkpatricks that lived in Mayo. As far as I am aware my ancestors in Ireland have always been Catholic so this is a bit of a puzzle to me at the moment.

Hi Cheryl
I found the inscription on Memorials of the Dead Galway & Mayo cd:
Have mercy O Lord on
the soul of And Kirkpatrick
who died the 7th May 1845
aged 64 years
Pray for the soul of
Robert Groghan
died Jan 29th 1879
aged 63 years
also his wife
Honoria Groghan
died Dec 31 1893 aged 70 years
Erected by his affectionate
wife Allice Kirkpatrick alias McEvilyHe is referred to as And Kirkpatrick & born abt 1781 but I couldn't find a baptism record for him or a marriage record for him & Alice
Alice says alias McEvilly rather than nee so I wonder if she had changed her birth surname or meant nee?
Not much help I'm afraid Cheryl
