hne 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Islandeady civil parish shows a John Tuffy living in Cashel townland. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/mayo/islandeady.htm Possibly this is the grandfather of Patrick.
The Mormon Church microfilmed the RC church records for Islandeady back to 1839. You can order the film online www.familysearch.org and view the film at a local Family History Center. https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/482432?availability=Family%20History%20Library
I found a death index record for a John Tuffy who was born in 1836 and died in 1896. You can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of this record. Fill out the GRO form and provide the quarter/year of death, registration district (Westport) and the volume and page number ( 4 and 293). Costs around 4 euros.
